Old House Borer

Hylotrupes Bajulus

The old house borer is a long beetle which burrows into structural wood. The sounds of this beetle feeding on wood can be heard through the wood. They feed little during the winter months, and feed during the spring and summer months.

It takes about five years to mature fully, feeding sounds are not audible during their first few years, and become audible when they are about four years old.

The damage to wood depends on the level and time extent of infestation.
