Red imported Fire ants will build large mound nests. Most easily identified by their reddish-brown coloring, and the large size of their nest mound.
These ants will build mounds outside or near structural foundations. They can infest garages/structures through holes and cracks and will bite/sting humans around nests.
The sting of this ant results in a painful blister that becomes a white welt. The sting is extremely painful, and releases a chemical signaling other nearby ants to sting as well, often those who encounter these ants will receive multiple stings.
