The odorous house ant gets its name from, and can be identified by the strong, rotten coconut-like odor it gives off when crushed.

These ants make nests in moist areas, and do not pose a serious health risk, but can contaminate food. They prefer sweets but will eat almost anything.

Odorous house ant ant prevention includes eliminating standing water sources and moisture, as well as trimming branches, and sealing cracks/holes that these ants could use for entry into structures. Also make sure that firewood and wood sources are not stored near structures.
