Subterranean termites live underground in colonies, or in moist areas above ground. They produce mud tube to reach food sources, and feed on products containing cellulose. Subterranean termites swarm in the spring and need contact with the soil to survive and live underground. They can build tunnels through cracks in concrete and are extremely destructive to wood, having the ability to collapse buildings entirely.
